RESEARCH/ SPONSORED PROJECTS

WUD is the youngest university ever to be awarded the prestigious design and innovation capacity building grant under the ERASMUS Plus Programme of the European Union. WUD, as the lead, is working with a consortium of international partner universities including Brunel University, UK; Politecnico di Milano, Italy; University of Agean, Greece and IIITD Delhi. Consulting Services

WUD provides design services to various sectors of the industry. Design practice is a significant part of design education at WUD.

Comprehensive Design Services

CDS Undertakes design projects for public and private sector. Through its Comprehensive Design Services (CDS), WUD undertakes consultancy projects and professionally delivers design solutions in various areas of design disciplines ranging from Architectural, interior, product & accessories, transportation, graphic & communication, fashion & textile, visual art, photography etc.

Consultancy project at WUD starts with an enquiry from the Client for a design requirement followed by the meeting to understand the scope of the project and formulate design brief. Based on the final design brief, a techno-commercial proposal is made and sent to the Client for approval. A design team headed by the Faculty is formulated on approval to take on the project. Given the cross-disciplinary environment of WUD these projects receive multiple inputs resembling actual market realities for the benefit of the Clients.

WUD has already taken up and successfully completed many projects in the domain of logo design, graphics & communication, setting up a trend pavilion at a trade fair, creating and operationalising a national competitive event, carrying out feasibility study for a foreign country etc.

Outreach

Outreach undertakes projects related to social side of design.

WUD's Outreach connects the in-house experience, learning and training facilities to service the requirements of those outside its regular education and client service activities. They may be organisation, groups and individuals. Outreach collaborators include SMEs, hand & craft industries, other institutions of education and training, voluntary organisation and central or state bodies working in social/ priority sectors.

Under outreach WUD organizes workshop and training programmes tailored to the specific needs of particular groups, aimed at assisting them to put design awareness in schools, at primary and secondary levels.

Industry Programmes

IP organizes workshops and short programmes for design awareness.

As part of its mandate, WUD's Industry Programmes division (IPD) conducts 'on demand' design related sensitization, awareness & training workshops, seminars, and activities on specific topics that help provide a competitive edge to the industry. WUD brings together for this purpose, the vast knowledge and skills of its faculty members as also professionals, practitioners, teachers from various industries, organizations, and institutions.

Placements

One of the many ways in which industry can engage with WUD Students.

WUD's Placement Office provides strategic platform to synergize and facilitate interaction between academia and industry with an idea to provide exposure to WUD Students, creating opportunities for students’ project-based learning like graduation projects, industrial training, classroom projects and live projects. This Industry Interface provide a meeting ground where the prospective employer and students can meet and employer can identify suitable candidates for recruitment in their organization. This event also creates awareness among the industries / firms / studios/ NGOs. / Govt. Sector / MSMEs about WUD and its various modes of operations.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS HANDLED LAST YEAR

FEASABILITY STUDY
WUD carried out a feasibility study and developed the Business Plan for establishing a Royal Academy of Design in Bhutan. The study was made for Bhutan Youth Development Foundation.

NATIONAL DESIGN CONTEST
WUD designed and established a national design contest ‘Do the Denim’ for ARCHROMA the chemical giant. WUD also managed the first version of the contest.
